Did You Know?

Replacing metal parts with plastic parts is one of the leading ways to improve the fuel efficiency of an automobile? The federal government requires automotive manufacturers to increase the average fuel efficiency of the cars they produce to 37.8 mpg by 2016. One of the primary methods being used to meet these requirements is to make the cars lighter by replacing heavier materials such as metal with light weight molded plastic, such as foam. Reducing a car's weight by 200 lbs can provide a 3-7% improvement in fuel efficiency, and for each pound of weight saved, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 25.3 lbs over the life of the vehicle.
